What a scare

Bryce and I were in the ER for four hours last night. I had started to have some spotting and cramping around 4pm, so we decided to head in to see if things were ok. This is how my last miscarriage started, so we weren't taking any chances.

Luckily, things looked ok. We had an ultrasound and baby was looking just fine. We saw it wriggling and kicking and sucking it's thumb and looking just perfect. I'll post some pics on Blog 2 in a sec. They never found the cause of the spotting, and it has since stopped. I'm on bedrest until I can talk to my doctor first thing tomorrow morning.

It is such a beautiful thing to feel a little being moving and dancing inside of you. Sprout has been quite the acrobat the last few days. I've felt him/her for a few weeks now, but this weekend s/he really showed me that everything is ok. I don't think there is any part of pregnancy more precious to me than this special bond that we get to share. I look forward to the days when I am pushing that little foot away from my ribs so I can breathe.

Today we got to meet Sprout for the second time. I'm 10 weeks now, and we just had our 2nd ultrasound. I was expecting the worst, but we saw a beautiful, perfect, squirming little baby. We feel like we can breathe again, and have something to hope for now. I'll be posting the lastest pic on the other blog in a sec!

Three of my close online friends just found out they were pregnant in the last week. Ann, Michelle and Nicole, I look forward to spending these next few months watching our bellies grow and our babies blossom! Ann is due April 7th, Michelle is due April 11th, and Nicole is due April 17th! Michelle has been trying to get pregnant since I began way back last summer, and the other gals have been trying since the beginning of the year, so it's so sweet that we can celebrate it together!

Hello morning sickness, goodbye sanity

You know, after escaping the evilness that plagues something like 80% of women in my other pregnancies, I thought I was good as gold. The first few weeks I was tired, and moody (nothing new there! lol) but didn't feel all that bad. Then about five days ago I feel like I got hit by a truck. Sea bands are helping, but I still feel really gross. And forget trying to be an interactive mom and wife. I basically sit on the couch/chair/floor while my husband/wild-child/pet brings things to me in the hope of getting some sort of response. Poor family. It will all be over soon, and it will all be worth it!

We have our first ultrasound, to *hopefully* see the heartbeat and rule out twins next Monday, the 30th. Also have our first real appointment with our new midwife that day! She is awesome, and we are so relieved (and lucky!) that our insurance is covering our homebirth! YAY!

Our garden is doing lovely...if you call the feeling of walking into a jungle lovely. It's become, once again (sigh) an overgrown mass of produce. Way too much for us small folk to eat by ourselves. So we will begin the task of shamelessly looking for unsuspecting souls to whom we will cast our never-ending truck-fulls of garden goodness upon. (phew!) At least this year we have pigs to feed it to. Someday, I'm not sure when, we will actually be able to toss out those tiny little seedlings without feeling a deep sense of guilt. And will admit that maybe God didn't give us all these (hundreds) of little plants so that we can share our bounty with our neighbors (who don't know what they're in for...teehee)

A bunch of randomness

First, after trying desperately to deal with the pain of losing our baby, we decided to name it. It helps us to make the baby real, the pregnancy real, and the loss real. We named it Riley, which would have been it's name had it been a boy. We think it was, but Riley also works as a girl's name. So if you hear us refer to Riley, that's who we're talking about.

We now have a household of pets. In the last month we've added two new kittens and a pig(who lives next door) to our madhouse. Ellie (a grey tabby) and Miles (siamese) are siblings, and they have been wonderful entertainment for Grace. Here they are this week:

In other news, we are pregnant again! After a few more fertility treatments, we are expecting another little sprout (hopefully to stay this time!) in March. The due date is March 16th, which is also the day we found out we were pregnant with Riley. Very special day! I still can't believe I've been pregnant three times this year already!

My mom came to visit in mid-June and we had a wonderful time with her. Grace was so sad to see her leave! Here is a great pic from her visit:

By the way, Grace is OFFICIALLY a peanut. Her 18 month checkup put her in the 95th percentile for height (33.5inches...meaning only 5% of kids her age are taller than her!) and 20th for weight (22lbs 9oz...meaning 80% of kids her age are heavier than her lol)

The "bean" as we're calling it is growing like well, a bean. lol I'm almost 9 weeks pregnant now, only three weeks till the second trimester! We got to tell the family last week, and everyone was very excited! (although a couple of people were in trouble for hiding it! *ahem Blake and Grandma*)

Grace wore a shirt a friend of mine made for the occasion. We took her jacket off and waited for someone to notice it. :) Of course it was one her aunts lol.

She has stopped the sudden growth spurt where she ate everything within reach....or so i thought. I served Indian food last night. Naan(bread), spicy curry beef, and Dahl(lentils) You can see the dahl covering her face. She ate a whole cup of the stuff. No joke. A CUP!

My tiny little baby girl is going to be 9 months old tomorrow! She isn't so tiny anymore! She is so close to walking, I don't know what I'll do when she gets there! She had a doctors appt. yesterday, she was 16lbs 12 oz(10th percentile) and 28 inches long(close to 75th percentile). Long and lean! We aren't worried about her weight, she gets PLENTY to eat! I think she is just thinning out from all the moving she does!

We're leaving for Portland Saturday night, and will stay with Bryce's brother that night. They'll run us to the airport around 4am *oy* to fly out for our vacation! I'm working on getting all the details worked out (maps, directions, etc.) so that things will be as seamless as possible. It will be both Bryce and Grace's first plane trip! We'll be going to Tijuana, the san diego zoo, and misc. other spots!

Gracie can move! And get into everything. Apparantly, toys are "so not cool, mom" but that dog food does look delicious, and those fan cords look like fun. Oh, and let me eat a moth. *sigh* We were at target on sunday, and she was sitting in the basket part of the cart, and pulled up on the side and tried to climb out! Her little toes were in the holes, and she was trying so hard. She loves to crawl to the flower beds outside and eat dirt, or get into Abby's food and water. Where oh where did my little girl go? She is so big now! The trip is going to be very interesting. LOL

God help me. She went from just sitting on her hands and knees, to crawling (June 29th) to pulling up and walking behind the laundry basket in FIVE DAYS! She crawled a day shy of her 8 month birthday. Then yesterday she pulled up on a tote, then climbed on top of it! Today she is pulling up on everything, and just a bit ago started pushing the laundry basket around and walking behind it! Granted, she isn't fast yet, but GEEZ! Also yesterday, she got into the dog food, spilled Abby's water, shredded the newspaper and had her first supper with us. At this rate she'll be starting college next month! I think we need to look into a push toy. :) Gotta love her!

Here are some pics. See how huge the squash is? And how many blooms are on one vine?! We have around 18 squash plants of different varieties, some watermelon and pumpkins, corn, beans, peas (although these didn't do too hot) lots of cucumbers, about 25 tomato plants (seriously.) lots of green peppers, carrots, and we had lettuce, spinach and radishes too. :)

It was HOT yesterday. Hovering in the mid- 90's. Well we discovered the other night that Grace startles herself awake easily, and she puts herself back to sleep by grabbing her purple blankie and snuggling. Because it's been hot, we hadn't put her on her one day, and she woke up crying. So we started stripping her down to a onsie and letting her hold that blanket. Last night it was the hottest day yet, and we had the fan on in her room, she was in a onsie, and she had her blankie. When i went to check on her before i went to bed, she was ROASTING! It was that darn blanket. She loves it so much that she is willing to be drenched with sweat! So now we need to start blowing the fan directly on her so she can sleep........with that blankie!

She has been getting organic brown rice cereal for the past few days, lunch and dinner. I think we are going to start a veggie, maybe green beans or carrots, this weekend. She LUNGES at the spoon, smacks her lips and sucks on her fingers while we feed her! Silly little girl!

This morning we practiced her sitting in bed. She's doing pretty good! Look at her facial expressions!

I also was able to put her hair into pigtails for the first time today. I really need to get some *little* hair bands.

Saturday morning we went to the Cherry Festival Parade. She LOVED LOVED the harleys. Sure g'ma and g'pa mac will appreciate that *wink*. We saw a couple from birthing class that had a baby a month before Grace. They are due AGAIN, this time one year exactly from when the other baby was born! HOLY COW!
We made a flower bed on saturday night, I think it's a big improvement. The pics are of Grace playing outside then.
The partylite party was small, a lot of women couldn't come because of the community meal, but I still ended up getting $50 of free stuff and a bunch of discounts. We are having another one on May 23rd for the people that couldn't come.

I made a sundress. The sizing was wrong so it's more like a 12 month instead of 6-9 so it'll be a while before she wears it. I am proud to say I not only sewed with a pattern for the first time, but actually made a presentable piece of clothing!

They have become the best of friends. Whenever we lay Grace on the floor, Abby comes over and puts her head next to her. Grace tries to "pet" her. It's so cute! And yesterday I walked in and caught Abby with her head on Grace's belly.

Look at them legs! I made her some babyleg-type things today. These are made of women's knee-high socks, with rib knit cuffs. Retail you can get them for $12! Here
I also bought a diaper pattern and made her a new diaper. Works SO much better than my others. I'll take a pic of that later. Unless you wanna see a dirty dipe! lol

She had quite a bit of naked time today, and has discovered she can move all over by rolling! She reaaly only likes to roll fromback to tummy, but when she has to, she'll go tummy to back. Mostly she just rolls to her tummy or side and kicks her legs and arches her back to move all over. It's funny!
I let her lick a *sour* green apple yesterday. She cried when I took it away! So I let her lick it again, and she grabbed my hand so I couldn't take it away! Silly girl.

Well the princess has been in an awful mood the last few days. I think she must be teething for sure! She won't let us put her down for a second.
In other news....
I was carrying her in one arm, with a glass in the other hand, and a teacup and saucer in the hand i was carrying her with. Well i guess she wanted to help, cause next thing I knew she grabbed the teacup and starting pulling it towards her! Good thing the tea in it was cold. She's also been rolling more. Only if she's naked though. Those darn bulky cloth diapers! And Abby has become an item of interest- she was "petting" her while on the floor today!
We, well I, :) have started using sign language with Gracie. Simple things like "mama milk", dog, mama, daddy, g'ma, g'pa, more, sad, burp, etc. A nice lady sent me some recorded tv shows teaching kids sign language! She seems to like it!

Grace has been SOO crabby the last few days! She usually nurses every three hours, but has been wanting to eat every 1 1/2 to 2. She fusses all day long. I can't put her to sleep at all. She will only nurse to sleep when she's VERY tired. She's drooling a lot, she's chewing on her hands...but that could be because she just discovered them a while ago. And she woke up for the first time at night since she was 2 months old. I think I'll get some teething tabs tomorrow.

Well our little princess is about as average as she can be, except in height. She was 50th percentile for head circumference and weight (13lbs 13.8oz) but the 75th for height (25inches) Good thing I ordered that new car seat today! Her poor little piggies are sticking over the edge of the seat almost. Doc says she is doing great!

A dress from a pillowcase? I didn't know it was possible!

But it is! I used an old, ugly pillowcase I had and made this dress , with a few alterations of course. I'd take pictures, but Bryce took the camera to work. So I'll postsoome tonight. It's a simple design, and I added elastic to the middle, and ribbon for the ties only. I think I could easily make it into a peasant style, with sleeves, as well. Speaking of cowgirls, I have some cute cowgirl fabric that I might make into a pillowcase dress for her. Now THAT would be cute.

The funniest thing happened this morning. She was in her exersaucer playing as usual, and I heard a loud thump. I thought she had bumped her face (she's a tad short in it!) so I turned around. Lo and behold! She was rockin it back and forth just as fast as she could! And smiling. She thought it was great that her body could make this big thing move! Maybe I'll make her a cowgirl dress to go along with one I made her last night. But that's another story.

Hooray! Today I looked out my front window, and what did I see? A few tiny white crocus and TWO daffodils! This is so exciting! Now only two more months and I can plant my 50+ seed packets. Perhaps we should actually MAKE our flower beds and garden....

We are trying a new nap schedule today. PLEASE PLEASE work. She usually takes a nap from 6-8am, i feed her, and she naps again until 9:30 or 10. Well we cut out the second nap, and so far so good. Maybe it will help her actually SLEEP in the afternoon. God knows we both need her to! Especially today, i need to make soup. : ) Wish us luck!

Update!
Well, she cried for a bit when I put her down, but soon fell asleep. She slept for a *whopping* 40 minutes. wow. i guess it's a start.

My diaper obsession

It's ridiculous, really. I'm obsessed with making diapers. I have about 30 links in my favorites that lead me to all kinds of ideas for sewing cloth dipes. Last week I made Grace 4 recycled bum sweaters (check out her website--->) 2 fitted diapers that need a cover over them, and even bought a 35lb bag of tshirts from the thrift store to make her more. I guess my reasoning is that I don't want to pay for the next size, but sheesh! Bryce thinks I'm a tad crazy, with my cut-up patterns and fabric all over our kitchen table. "But it's fun!" I tell him. 10 minutes later I am cursing and throwing things. Someday soon I will show off my little munchkin in her *perfectly* mom-made diaper. Then I can have something to brag about! Eh, maybe not. But hey, I don't do too shabby for a self-taught sewer. I'll post some pics of the "stash" sometime.

Well I have decided that this would be a good way to share all of the mundane details of our day with our family and friends. Not that you are interested, but you never know what you may learn....So here goes.

Today our dearest child has decided that napping is for losers. She has taken a whole ten minute nap all day. When she is awake, which is always, she arches her back and screeches. Our four-month-old drama queen. Great. I've even tried to put her to sleep by doing what i never thought I would do...nursing her to sleep! Didn't work. Guess that's a good thing. She does like to stare at the computer screen, and gets this dazed look when she does. Maybe she'll go to sleep this way..
The good news is that she looks super cute in her blue dress. Maybe I'll post a pic.
